Emergency Ride Home (ERH) Program Rules

+ What is Emergency Ride Home (ERH)?

ERH is a service provided by Central Indiana Commuter Services (CICS) for all qualified carpoolers, vanpoolers, walkers, bikers and transit riders. Taxi service is provided for participants so they are not stranded at work or left without transportation when there is an emergency during the day.

Emergencies Covered by ERH

+ In what circumstances can ERH be used?

The types of emergencies covered by ERH are:

  • Personal Illness
  • Family Member Illness
  • Personal or Family Emergency
  • Unexpected Overtime
  • Carpool or Vanpool Driver has Emergency
  • Mechanical Problems with the Carpool or Vanpool Vehicle (when leaving work only)

The ERH program cannot be used to get to work; weather related inconveniences; preplanned appointments; or personal errands. This service is free of charge for the commuter, but can only be used on days when the commuter uses alternative transportation to get to work.

+ What are the program requirements?

To qualify for ERH, a commuter must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be an active carpooler, vanpooler, walker, biker or transit rider.
  2. Use any of the above commuting modes to work at least three days a week.

ERH Services

+ What services does the ERH program provide?

The ERH program will provide the following services:

  • Free taxi service from the work place to a single location (one pick up place is allowed) in case of an emergency. When multiple riders share a taxi, multiple stops are allowed.
  • If multiple riders share a taxi, each rider must be listed on the voucher and one voucher is deducted from each rider's 12 month allocation. Hand write each additional name on the voucher.
  • Free taxi service is limited to 50 miles from the work site. The commuter must cover the cost beyond 50 miles. Gratuity is not covered by CICS.
  • Each qualifying commuter is entitled to 5 vouchers for a 12 month period. The 12 month period begins when the commuter registers with CICS.

ERH will be administered by CICS with the assistance of the Employee Transportation Coordinator (ETC) at the worksite.
